Joseph Stiglitz is an American economist, public policy analyst, and professor at Columbia University. He is a recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and the John Bates Clark Medal. He is also a member of the Council of Foreign Relations.
Stiglitz is known for his work on information asymmetry and imperfect markets, and has made contributions to the theory of welfare economics, income distribution and macroeconomics. He has been a vocal critic of globalization and free-market policies, and has advocated for more government intervention in the economy to address issues such as inequality and market failures.
