Kirsty Duncan is a Canadian politician, academic, and medical geographer who is currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North, Toronto. She was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in 2008 and has been re-elected in every general election since then. She is a member of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Duncan is a former university professor who has taught at the University of Windsor and the University of Toronto. She has a Ph.D. in medical geography and has written several books on the subject, including “Hunting the 1918 Flu: One Scientist’s Search for a Killer Virus” and “Environmental Health and Nursing Practice”.
In parliament, Duncan has served as the Minister of Science, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, and Minister of State (Science and Technology). She has been an advocate for evidence-based decision making and has worked to promote science literacy, accessibility and inclusion, and gender equality in parliament.
Duncan is also the first person to hold the position of Minister of Science in Canada who is trained as a scientist.
