Fons Trompenaars experienced cultural differences first-hand at home, where he grew up speaking both French and Dutch, then later when he worked with the Royal Dutch Shell Group in nine different countries. In 1989 Fons Trompenaars became Managing Director of the Centre for International Business Studies (CIBSBV), a consulting and training organization for International Management.
In addition, Mr Trompenaars has worked as a consultant for many large and successful companies such as BP, Philips, IBM, Heineken, Motorola, General Motors, Merrill Lynch and Johnson & Johnson to name but a few.

In 1991 Fons Trompenaars was awarded the International Professional Practice Area Research Award by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). He was mentioned as one of the top 5 management consultants, next to Michael Porter, Tom Peters and Edward de Bono in a leading Business magazine in August 1999.
A highly acclaimed author on the subject of cultural diversity, Fons Trompenaars has written many books, including Riding the Waves of Culture, Understanding Cultural Diversity in Business, which has sold over 120,000 copies and has been translated into ten languages.
